In 1991 Denmark was one of the first countries to resume diplomatic relations with Estonia. The new embassy building is built to signal openness and to reflect the friendship between the two countries.
The good relationship between Denmark end Estonia is reflected in the embassy building’s remarkable location. The embassy is located just outside the historic city center of Tallinn with views over Hirve Park and close to the
Estonian Parliament. Close by one finds the monument that marks the spot where the Danish flag ‘Dannebrog’ fell from the sky in 1219, according to legend.
The building is designed as a narrow, three-storey house with a characteristic cantilevered roof. On the first and second floor the embassy is located. On the third floor an attractive private residence for the ambassador has been designed. All offices and rooms for private residence have views over Hirve Park and the towers of the old city. External functions, that depend on circulation have been placed towards the south.
The building’s shape, materials and details reflect Estonian building culture. Externally the house is clad in cedar wood and Estonian sandstone.
